Lake Pontchartrain Shoreline Properties
Jefferson Parish, Louisiana
East Jefferson Levee District
As the East Jefferson Levee District continues to maintain and improve the existing levees and associated levee drainage works within Jefferson Parish, there are certain assurances that are required by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to move forward with project construction. Specifically, that all lands, rights-of-ways, and/or easements required to conduct related levee and drainage improvements have been successfully acquired by the District. As such, GCR was retained by the East Jefferson Levee District to map those lakeshore properties acquired by the Pontchartrain Levee District through appropriations in the year 1949, and later transferred to the East Jefferson Levee District when formed in 1979 so that real estate assurances can be made with a high level of confidence.
As part of this mapping initiative, GCR reviewed all documents provided by the Levee District, including petitions, stipulations, judgments, addendums, and surveys to identify properties appropriated by the Pontchartrain Levee District. GCR created a GIS base map delineating those properties now owned by the East Jefferson Levee District along the shores of Lake Pontchartrain. The delineation of individual parcel ownership, levee right-of-way lines, project station numbers, existing improvements, and section, township and range lines was included on this map. GCR provided an overall aerial image delineating the boundaries of the East Jefferson Levee District, and overlaid all of the mapping research conducted. |
